A Rabun County sheriff’s deputy was only trying to help a homeless man when he bought him two burgers to eat.

What the deputy probably didn’t expect was for the man to tip him off about alleged drug deals made at a nearby restaurant.

According to officials, as the homeless man ate, he told the deputy he thought a fast food worker was selling drugs behind a restaurant.

Authorities investigated the March 2 tip, which led them to Frank James Sheldon, 31, of Clayton. Eight bags of methamphetamine were found in Sheldon’s car.

Sheldon remains in the Rabun County jail on a charge of distribution of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.
