A Gwinnett County mom was booked into jail after authorities said she left her child in a Walmart parking lot while she shopped.

A customer found Dibo Welashey’s 14-month-old child strapped in his car seat in the 2600 block of Pleasant Hill Road, Channel 2 Action News reported.

“The baby, when we got here, was crying and in need of something,” Duluth police spokesman Officer Ted Sadowski told Channel 2. “The car was cool to the touch.”

Police estimated the child may have been in the car 45 minutes and said they waited for Welashay to come out of the store.

“With the shopping season, people think they are only going to be in there for a minute or two and get their present,” Sadowski said. “Just know, everyone else is wanting to get their present, and it's going to take a lot longer.”

The child was picked up by his father, Channel 2 reported. The Division of Family and Child Services will determine if the child will remain with his father or be placed in state custody.
