A 31-year-old Marietta man died after he was hit by a van while he walked on Canton Road on Monday night, Cobb County police said.

Russell L. Mathews was walking southbound in the north travel lane when he was hit by the driver of a Chevrolet Express van, police Sgt. Dana Pierce said.

When officers arrived shortly before 9 p.m., they found Mathews lying in the grass, just off the shoulder of the road, Pierce said.  He was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The van’s driver was identified as Scott A. Turner, 48, of Douglasville, Pierce said. Neither he nor his passenger was injured.

No charges are expected to be filed, but anyone with information is asked to call 770-499-3987.
