Clayton cops bust alleged ATV theft ring victimizing Craigslist users

Clayton County police teamed up with other law enforcement agencies to bust an ATV theft ring that was victimizing patrons of Craigslist, authorities announced Thursday.

Officers arrested Darrell Rucker, 20, of Union City, and Derrick Jackson, 28, of College Park last week and recovered 10 All-Terrain Vehicles, Officer Charlene Watson-Fraser with Clayton County police said. Rucker was charged with theft by taking, theft by hijacking and a weapons offense. Jackson was charged with theft by receiving for allegedly acting as a fence.

For at least five months, the two men allegedly had been contacting ATV owners who were selling their machines on Craigslist and persuading them to meet in a various spots around College Park and Riverdale, Watson-Fraser said.

Once there, the alleged thieves would pretend to take the ATV for a test drive and never return, Watson-Fraser said.
