Police are investigating a deadly home invasion involving children in Georgia.

Officers found an 11-year-old girl and 15-year-old boy shot to death inside a house in Jonesboro Saturday morning.

There were several other children, ranging in age from 6 to 15, inside the house at the time.

Police say they received a call from someone inside the home around 5 a.m.

"It's very tragic. It's senseless. And not only in the Atlanta area, but in the country we have got to do something about this violence," Clayton County Police Chief Michael Register said.

Police say it appears two families live in the home and no parents were there at the time of the shooting.

There are no suspects at this time, but police say they do have several leads.

"We are certainly going to expend every resource we have to find who did this," Register said.

Donald Trump's administration deployed the military to Washington, D.C., in the name of fighting crime, and in an Aug. 11 news conference he mentioned the possibility of military being sent to other large American cities, all of which are led by Black, Democratic mayors. And while Atlanta wasn't included in Trump's list, the city fits that profile under Mayor Andre Dickens. (Photo Illustration: Philip Robibero / AJC | Source: Getty)
