For 15 years, Valerie Levine, her husband and her teenage daughter had lived without incident on Norfleet Road in Buckhead.

But that ended about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday when her husband scared away three masked men from the kitchen area, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The intruders dropped a gun on their way out, but they still managed to steal two cars, the station reported.

“I think if my husband had confronted them, it could have gone badly, so good that he startled them the way they did,” Levine said.

It appears the intruders broke in through a back door, Channel 2 reported.

When Levine’s husband heard a noise, he went to the kitchen area. The intruders then bolted and jumped over the back fence. They got the keys to the stolen cars, an Audi SUV and a Lexus SUV, from inside the house.

Atlanta police are calling it a home invasion, and they say they will be increasing patrols in the area.

“We are just so so grateful,” Levine said, “that no one was hurt.”
