A Woodstock High School student was stabbed by another student Friday afternoon, according to Cherokee County Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Jay Baker.

The student, a 16-year-old freshman, is in stable condition and the suspect, a 16-year-old sophomore, is in custody, Sheriff Frank Reynolds said.

The incident prompted officials to issue a “Code Red” alert for the high school and neighboring Woodstock Middle School.

The lockdown was lifted at 3:15 p.m. in conjunction with high school dismissal, officials said. Buses are expected to run on schedule.

The call came to authorities about 1:18 p.m., Reynolds said. A fight started in a bathroom and spilled into the hallway.

The suspect ran from the school, Reynolds said. Officials found him later while viewing video, and he was arrested by deputies while he walked near his home.
