A lockdown at a DeKalb County elementary school was lifted Tuesday morning after an earlier report of gunfire in the area, police said.

About 8 a.m., a caller told police that she saw someone thrown from a car in the area, and that person fired at the car, police spokeswoman Shiera Campbell said.

The caller then drove to nearby Fairington Elementary and told the principal what she saw, Campbell said. As a precaution, the principal placed the school on lockdown.

When officers responded, they did not find a crime scene or any of the people who were reportedly involved, Campbell said.

Police also stopped drivers in the area as a precaution, Channel 2 Action News reported.
