A 4-year-old boy is in the intensive care unit at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston after accidentally shooting himself while his mother was in a restaurant picking up food, police said.

Three other children were unattended in the vehicle when the shot was fired about 3:40 p.m. Wednesday outside a Middle Georgia restaurant, according to a Facebook post from the Warner Robins Police Department.

The boy was taken to Houston Medical Center then transferred to the Atlanta hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg, police said.

“Doctors say his condition is improved,” according to the post.

No charges have been filed in connection with the shooting and the status of the other children isn’t known.

The shooting is under investigation, police said.
