A Gwinnett County woman who held her 4-week-old grandson hostage early Wednesday was denied bond and given a court-appointed lawyer Thursday, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Laurie Morgan, 57, was armed and intoxicated at about 3 a.m. Wednesday, when she got into a fight with her grandson's father, Chris Massie, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported.

Massie told Channel 2 Morgan became angry over all the items he collected as scrap.

“It was basically because I didn’t have every single thing in the house,” Massie said.

Morgan’s daughter called police after Massie left the family’s Highland Corners apartment on Noble Forest Drive, near Peachtree Corners.

About an hour after officers arrived, just before 4 a.m., Morgan went outside with the baby in her arms and fired one shot, then went back inside, Gwinnett police Cpl. Michele Pihera said.

“Nobody was injured by this round fortunately, but we don’t know who her intended target was,” Pihera said. “So that’s when our officers on scene decided to make it a designated SWAT call.”

SWAT team members rescued the child and arrested Morgan at about 8:30 a.m.

She was asleep and the baby was safe.

"I don't know what she was doing for that four hours," Pihera said. "She might have been asleep the whole time."

Morgan, who cried almost endlessly in court Thursday, said she doesn’t remember the incident, according to Channel 2.

“I don’t even know what happened, I don’t know why I’m here,” Morgan said in court while gripping her shoulder and shaking her head. “I don’t know anything.”

The judge denied her bond and appointed her a lawyer.
