The man whose body was found Saturday behind an apartment building in Clayton County signed himself out of a hospital the day before, police said.

The body was found behind a building at the Ashwood Ridge Apartments on Upper Riverdale Road in Jonesboro, police spokeswoman Sgt. Ashanti Marbury said.

The body “had been at this location for an extended amount of time,” Marbury said. There were no signs of trauma.

Officers saw that the man was wearing socks frequently provided at hospitals and medical facilities, Marbury said. Local hospitals were contacted, and police learned the man had been a patient recently.

Officers were told the man signed himself out against the advice of doctors Friday, according to Marbury.

The death appears to be from natural causes, Marbury said. The man’s identity has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
