A former Atlanta police officer was indicted Thursday on charges related to a home invasion in Henry County.

Phillip Barresi of Jonesboro also faces a criminal damage charge because he allegedly kicked down the door to a home in Locust Grove where his ex-fiancée was staying with her sister and parents last year.

The rookie officer was sworn in March 17, 2016, and resigned May 8, Atlanta police said.

A Henry County police report states Barresi was in full Atlanta police uniform with his service weapon during the Nov. 28, 2016, incident.

Barresi told detectives he “accidentally kicked the door open,” according to the police report. He told them he “regretted his actions” but was “extremely upset” after his ex allegedly broke into his home.

He remains free on a $15,000 bond.
