Apparent drug death may be linked to Forsyth County overdoses

An apparent drug-related death in Walton County may be linked to drug cases in Forsyth County.

The apparent drug-related death of a Cumming man in Walton County may be connected to the four recent drug overdoses in Forsyth County, a police official said.

Early Saturday, Jeffery Kim Wilson, 28, died after he was dropped off by a friend at Clearview Regional Medical Center, Monroe police said in a Facebook post.

“At this time we cannot rule out that Wilson’s death may in some way be related to the recent drug overdose cases in Forsyth County,” police Chief Keith Glass said in a statement. “The circumstances appear similar.”

Last weekend, two people died and two others were in serious condition after drug incidents in Forsyth County, officials said.

Wilson was released from the Coffee County Correctional Facility on April 17, and three days later he contacted a friend in Loganville, Glass said. The friend picked up Wilson in Atlanta and they returned to the friend’s residence.

On Friday, the friend found Wilson in the bathroom with drug paraphernalia, and Wilson appeared to be having a seizure, Glass said.

About 1:30 a.m. Saturday, the friend drove Wilson to the hospital. After Wilson was removed from the vehicle, the friend drove away without giving the medical staff any personal information or information about Wilson, according to Glass.

Wilson was pronounced dead by Clearview staff, Glass said. A GBI autopsy showed no blunt-force trauma or wounds from a knife or a gun.

Police later made contact with the friend.

“We are working and coordinating with several other agencies as this death investigation remains active,” Glass said.

Forsyth County authorities think the overdoses may “be indicative of a bad batch of deadly drugs such as heroin or fentanyl making their way into Forsyth County.”
