Police said another child accidentally fired the shot that killed a 10-year-old boy at a northwest Atlanta apartment complex on the Fourth of July, according to Channel 2 Action News.

No charges are planned against two other children, ages 11 and 7, who were in the apartment with Sincere Jordan at the time of the shooting, the station reported.

Jordan, an honor student at Peyton Forest Elementary School, lived at the complex but was at a neighbor’s apartment when he was shot, according to police.

The gun belonged to their mother, but an unidentified man removed it before police arrived, the station reported. Police plan to charge the man who tampered with the gun evidence, according to Channel 2.

Jordan was shot about 1:40 p.m. Tuesday at the complex in the 2500 block of Ethridge Drive, police said.

Jordan participated in the Atlanta police PAL program, according to Channel 2. An officer went to pick him up for the Peachtree Road Race that morning but later found out he'd been shot and killed.
