Cops: Man found dead on carport was homicide victim

The death of a man found Monday morning on his carport has been ruled a homicide, Cobb County police said Monday night.

Officers were called to a home in 3500 block of Paul Samuel Road, near Kennesaw, around 7:45 a.m., according to Sgt. Dana Pierce with Cobb police. When they arrived, officers found the body of the 60-year-old homeowner lying in the carport, according to police.

The victim, identified by police as Frank William Davidson, died “under circumstances that indicate foul play,” Pierce said. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

A neighbor told Channel 2 Action News she was shocked to learn Davidson had been killed. Ellen Giddings, who lives in a house Davidson owns next door, said she had known him for two decades.

“I want to know who did this and how come,” Giddings told Channel 2. “It just doesn’t make any sense.”

One of Davidson’s home was also the scene of a homicide investigation more than 20 years ago, though it was not known if the two crimes were connected. In September 1992, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that a childhood friend of Davidson’s, Robert Lee Bruce, was charged with killing Davidson’s ex-wife, Deanna Lynn Davidson.

Bruce, then 45, and his wife had been temporarily staying in Frank Davidson’s home, police said at the time. Frank and Deanna Davidson were attempting a reconciliation at the time her body was found. Bruce later admitted to killing Deanna Davidson and was sentenced to life in prison. He died in October.

No arrests had been made Monday night. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Cobb police at 770-499-3945.
