What allegedly started as a kidnapping ended with one person dead and two in custody Monday night, the Douglas County sheriff said.

Shortly after 8 p.m., deputies were called to the Arbor Village Mobile Home Park, on Midway Road, where a man who said he was a security guard said he had escaped kidnappers, Sheriff Phil Miller said.

“He said he had been kidnapped for 45 minutes and held hostage,” Miller told reporters.

Several deputies arrived at the neighborhood, where they located three men inside a white, four-door sedan, Miller said. The first man out of the car was holding a gun, which a deputy placed on the hood while attempting to place the man in handcuffs.

The deputy struggled with the man and deployed his Taser, Miller said. But due to man’s heavy coat, the Taser was not successful in stopping the man, he said.

When a second man got out of the car, he allegedly grabbed the gun from the hood of the car and pointed it at the deputy, Miller said. The deputy then fired two shots at the second man, who was killed.

Two suspects, whose names were not released, were arrested, Miller said. The man who called 911 was being interviewed by deputies late Monday.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was assisting with the investigation.
