A DeKalb County high school student who recently became a member of the school’s dance team died Monday after passing out during summer workouts.
Elyse Purefoy, 17, was at Arabia Mountain High School when she collapsed on the track during their morning training, Channel 2 Action News reported. Her father, Hank Purefoy, told Channel 2 his daughter was headed into her senior year.
Her teammates noticed her pass out, and she died later at a local hospital, Channel 2 reported.
The teen was pronounced dead at the hospital. Her family told me that they’re now creating a @gofundme to help with the funeral expenses. As soon as they send the link, i will post it here.

The school district sent a statement regarding the incident that said, “The entire DeKalb County School District community, and especially the Arabia Mountain High School family, mourns the passing of a member of the school’s dance team. Our hearts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.”
The family created a GoFundMe page to raise money for her funeral. By Monday night, the page had raised over half of its $5,000 fundraising goal.
