Authorities in Hall County are investigating a fire that killed a father and his 9-year-old son, officials said.

Jesse Hinds, 40, and Jesse Hinds Jr. were both found dead after a mobile home caught fire, according to Hall fire spokesman Zach Brackett.

Fire services were sent to the mobile home in the 5400 block of Smallwood Drive about 8 a.m. Sunday, Brackett said.

Callers reported heavy smoke and flames coming from inside, and fire officials at the scene said the mobile home was “fully involved with fire.”

When the blaze was extinguished, Hines and his son were both found.

The cause of the fire has not been determined. The Hall County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the case. Investigators with Georgia’s Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner’s Office are assisting with the investigation.

“Smoke alarms were found to be present in the home, but it is unclear if they were working properly when the fire started,” the state agency said.

A spokesman for Hall County Schools said the son was a third-grader at Mount Vernon Elementary School. Grief counselors will be available on campus on Monday morning.
