An Alpharetta man drowned in Lake Lanier over the weekend, authorities said Monday.

Jalil Poorak, 59, was recovered by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office and Fire Department on Sunday morning and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release.

Poorak’s adult son told authorities his father fell into the water at their dock near Hayes Drive on Saturday night and did not resurface, the release said. Poorak was recovered a few hours later, just after midnight, by the Forsyth County and Hall County dive teams.

The Forsyth sheriff’s office is investigating.
