A police pursuit of a suspected carjacking suspect in Atlanta led to a wreck that injured three people unrelated to the chase.

About 6:30 p.m. Friday, Atlanta police attempted to stop an SUV suspected in a carjacking, according to police spokesman Officer John Chafee. The vehicle, which police believe was stolen around noon, stopped briefly on Jonesboro Road but then sped off toward Interstate 285, where it collided with two vehicles.

“They pursued that vehicle to (285), where it crossed over the median and struck two other vehicles head-on,” Chafee said at the scene.

Three occupants of the two vehicles not related to the pursuit were injured and taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Two suspects from the SUV were arrested. A third suspect was ejected from the SUV and suffered serious injuries. He is at Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition, Chafee said. Charges will be filed against the three suspects, he said.

The carjacking is still under investigation.
