Three weeks after allegedly killing a fellow college student, the suspected shooter has been arrested in California, Sandy Springs police said Thursday.

Patricko Mondrez Davis, 21, of Atlanta, was arrested by U.S. Marshals late Wednesday in Bakersfield and taken into custody without incident, according to Sgt. Ron Momon.

Davis has been charged with murder in the death of Takeenan Williams on July 24 outside a student housing complex known as the Hub, located on Barfield Road near the intersection with Hammond Drive. Williams, 23, of Sandy Springs, died after being shot multiple times.

But Davis eluded capture until Wednesday, according to police. He is being held at the Kern County Jail in Bakersfield awaiting extradition.

Both Williams and Davis attended the Art Institute of Atlanta and both were at the Hub at the time of the shooting, according to police. But neither lived in the complex. Police believe a dispute between the two led to gunfire.

Whitney Wharton, a cognitive neuroscientist at Emory who focuses on Alzheimer’s disease prevention, said she would not be surprised if her National Institutes of Health research grant funding that was canceled and then reinstated this year is terminated a second time. “We are on this roller coaster, and it is literally impossible to plan,” Wharton said. “It feels like one step forward and then two steps back. And I still don’t know what to do at this point.” (Natrice Miller/AJC)

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
