Arrest made in Gwinnett burned body case

Authorities have made an arrest in connection to the October discovery of a woman's burned body in a Gwinnett County park.

The body of 26-year-old Lauren Taylor, of Dalton, was found the morning of Oct. 8 by a couple who were walking their dog in Deshong Park near Stone Mountain. Taylor had been burned in the location where she was found — on a pathway next to a pavilion — Gwinnett police Cpl. Ed Ritter previously said.

Though Taylor’s death was only ruled a homicide Thursday, detectives had been investigating the case as a homicide since the discovery of her body, Gwinnett police Cpl. Jake Smith said in a news release Monday. That investigation led to the naming of a suspect, 37-year-old Charmane Demetrius Goins, of Tunnel Hill. Police said Goins had an extramarital romantic relationship with Taylor.

Detectives obtained warrants against Goins for malice murder, felony murder and aggravated assault. He was arrested without incident Monday by the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office, Smith said.

Goins was transferred to the Gwinnett County Detention Center, where he remained in custody without bond Monday night.
