Town festival: The annual Clarkston Culture Fest will celebrate the city's diversity with live performances plus information stations about food, clothing, art and traditions in countries such as Somalia, Ethiopia and Korea; a kids zone will include face and nail painting, henna, hair braiding and carnival games. Additionally, the Children are the Future exhibit will be held at the Christ Community African Methodist Episcopal Church's Adam's Center (4154 E. Ponce de Leon Ave.). Community outreach: Roswell churches will band together for the ninth annual Day of Hope, an event which will include medical screenings, haircuts, lunch, children's games and a pair of new shoes for every family member while supplies last. Holocaust Remembrance Day: A Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom HaShoah) commemoration ceremony will feature remarks from Tilar J. Mazzeo, author of "Irena's Children: The Extraordinary Story of the Woman Who Saved 2,500 Children from the Warsaw Ghetto." 3:30-4:30 p.m. April 23. Special service: A Holocaust remembrance service is scheduled, with readings, spiritual music, candle lighting and presentations. Bishop Julian Gordy of the Southeastern Synod of Evangelical Lutheran Church in America will be the keynote speaker. Anniversary gala: Emmaus House will celebrate its 50th anniversary with an outdoor gala called Forward From 50, which will include heavy hors d'oeuvres, drinks and live music. Special guests will include Bishop Robert C. Wright, 10th bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta, and Beth-Sarah Wright, Ph.D., inspirational speaker, author and adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Emory University School of Medicine. Trail races: The eighth annual monastery trail races will include an 8-, 3.1- and 1.2-mile courses over dirt or grass terrain. Participants will be able to join the monks before the race for prayer and Mass at 7 a.m. Post race, free pancakes will be available for participants and awards will be distributed.
