Readings and lessons: Discuss takeaways from the book "Seven Revolutions: How Christianity Changed the World and Can Change It Again," by Mike Aquilina and James L. Papandrea, during a nine-week hybrid history lesson, which will begin at 9:15 a.m. on Sundays from Jan. 8-March 5. Participants can attend all or some sessions; attendance in all is not required. Sip and sing: While sipping brews and singing hymns at Smith's Olde Bar's Atlanta Room (1578 Piedmont Ave., Atlanta), conversations about Christ will abound. Welcome to the first 2017 installment of Beer and Hymns, a gathering of seekers, sinners and saintly people, organized by members of Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. Special services: Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church will honor the life of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. with special services at 7:45 and 11 a.m. Jan. 15. Angela Tuck, an Atlanta-based writer, editor and longtime member of Pleasant Grove, will speak at the first service; Charles Person, a 1961 Freedom Rider and member of the Atlanta Student Movement, will be the guest speaker during the second service.
