A girl in California noticed that her new classmate was sitting alone at lunch and wanted to reach out to him.
There was one problem: Rafael Anaya, 10, recently moved from Mexico and doesn't speak English, according to KABC.
Amanda Moore, 10, who doesn’t speak Spanish, used the Google Translate app to communicate.
On Facebook, Moore’s mother posted an image of the letter Moore wrote in Spanish, with the help of the app. While it’s not a perfect translation, the letter says, "Would you like to sit with me today? Look for me and I will show you where I sit. We can color or simply tell scary stories. Thank you for your time, signed Amanda."
Anaya told KABC that the letter made him feel happy. Anaya’s mother said her son was nervous because he couldn’t understand his classmates, and she appreciated Moore’s act of kindness.
Moore was named student of the month at Paloma Elementary School.
The pair’s friendship didn’t end at lunch; Moore’s mother posted photos on Facebook of the pair dressed up for Halloween.
