The release dates for two highly-anticipated Pixar films have been switched.
Disney-Pixar announced in a Facebook post Wednesday that "The Incredibles 2" will be released June 15, 2018, and "Toy Story 4" will be released June 21, 2019.
The original 1995 "Toy Story" film focused on a toy cowboy doll named Woody, who struggles with his new place in his owner Andy's toy hierarchy when he gets a new toy space ranger hero, Buzz Lightyear, for his birthday.
The sequel, 1999's "Toy Story 2" focuses on Woody as he finds out he was originally part of a group of Western-themed toys and disconnects from Andy's toys to rediscover himself.
"Toy Story 3," released in 2010, wrapped up Woody's, Buzz's and the rest of the toys' experiences with Andy as he leaves for college and gives the toys away to a little girl.
The fourth installment, director John Lasseter said, wasn't discussed until recently.
"We love these characters so much; they are like family to us," Lasseter, who also directed "Toy Story" and "Toy Story 2," told Oh My Disney. "We don't want to do anything with them unless it lives up to or surpasses what's gone before. 'Toy Story 3' ended Woody and Buzz's story with Andy so perfectly that for a long time, we never even talked about doing another 'Toy Story' movie. But when Andrew, Pete, Lee and I came up with this new idea, I just could not stop thinking about it. It was so exciting to me, I knew we had to make this movie -- and I wanted to direct it myself."
The release date for "Toy Story 4" marks another delay for the film, which Variety reported was set for release in 2018 and BuzzFeed News reported in 2014 was going to be released in 2017.
"The Incredibles 2," however, has been demanded by fans for years following "The Incredibles" release in 2004.
The original film shows a superhero family who hides their powers, but soon puts them to use when the patriarch, Mr. Incredible, gets in trouble with a superhero fan.
As for the sequel, details are sparse, but Brad Bird is returning to his director role for the movie.
"It'll be more Incredibles," Bird said. "I'm not going to give up anything! I come down on the side of surprise."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the swap in release dates comes because of "an accelerated production schedule for 'Incredibles 2.'"
