As Hartsfield-Jackson International works to develop a hotel next to the domestic terminal, the airport’s manager said he is not ruling out the possibility of residences at the development.

Hartsfield-Jackson general manager Miguel Southwell said the mixed-use development he calls an “airport city” near the terminal is expected to include office space, a service station and retail, and added that residential development is “not off the table.”

Southwell said there could be a market for executives who travel frequently and would like to have a location to stay at near the airport. He said noise insulation in properties like the Renaissance Concourse hotel just off the airfield allow guests there to sleep even as planes fly overhead.

The airport will invite pre-qualified companies to submit proposals for the project, and Southwell said the airport has chosen not to prescribe precise details for the estimated $400 million to $600 million development. He said the airport’s goal is to have the hotel completed within three years.
