Celebs who threaten to move are poor losers

Here we go again — celebrities claiming they will leave our country if Donald Trump is elected president. They did this when George W. Bush ran and was elected, but they are still here. Not only did they appear to be poor losers, but also liars. The sample list who claim they will leave if Trump is elected is Whoopi Goldberg, Rosie O’Donnell, Samuel L. Jackson, Miley Cyrus, Cher, Al Sharpton, Jon Stewart and Richard Dreyfuss. Evidently, they don’t believe the common electorate voters are as smart as they are if they vote for Trump. If Hillary Clinton is elected, I’m not going to leave this wonderful country, I’m going to buy gold.

Carter embodied model president

On Oct. 1, former President Carter celebrated his 92nd birthday. That event gives us an opportunity to reflect on how he prepared for the presidency. In the military he served as exec officer on the submarine USS Barracuda. His rise through elected offices, while rapid, progressed from state senator, to governor of Georgia, culminating in election to the presidency in 1976. Among the desirable character traits that prepare persons for the highest civilian office and the role of Commander-in-Chief are: They are secure and confident, not arrogant. They acknowledge their own limitations and capabilities and are able to take criticism. They are aware of personal and team weaknesses and look for any input for improvement. They are passionate about collaboration to find the best solution and focus on actual performance not personalities. As you prepare to vote, it’s fair to ask which of the two candidates has these characteristics.
