United passenger should have obeyed orders

What we have here (“Police claim United passenger violent,” News, April 26), is another episode of disobeying police commands. The passenger had to have a mindset that resisting arrest was the appropriate action. All one has to do is pick up a newspaper or turn on the TV and you’ll see police officers portrayed as bullies and bad guys. If the passenger had obeyed the commands, we wouldn’t have liberals up in arms and demanding that United change its policies and that police should have offered the out- of-control passenger tea and comfort.

Metro Atlanta must expand MARTA trains

The recent collapse of Interstate 85 and the governor asking for extra funding for metro transit systems has shown mass transit is needed in metro area. At least the train system if nothing else. There is no longer an excuse for not building out the commuter train lines. I am well aware Cobb and Gwinnett counties have both voted down joining MARTA and have instead created their own bus systems. But as traffic worsens and widening is no longer an option, the outer perimeter highway is getting tossed around again. The state needs to step in, complete the train lines north into Cobb, possibly as far as Town Center, further up Ga. 400, and up I-85 to the Hwy. 316 connector. Then west to Arbor place, Stone Mountain Hwy. 78 east and of course into Clayton County to the south. If localities want to run their own bus system, fine, let GRTA contract through MARTA to operate the trains (sorry, but they are the only ones experienced and have the ability to do it). And for those who believe in climate change, you have to be for mass transit and you should demand electric buses as well. We have tried what doesn’t work, it is time to try something else.
