Some 6,000 nonviolent federal inmates, many serving time for drugs, were granted early release from prison last week to relieve prison overcrowding and what some view as excessively harsh sentences. Today, law enforcement leaders write about the potential consequences of what CNN calls the “biggest federal inmate release on record.” Also, a local businesswoman writes about the success of the “Ban the Box” movement, which has helped eliminate the convicted-felon checkbox on public employment applications in Atlanta and Georgia and on the federal level.
