I’ve always loved this Sangiovese with a touch of Sagrantino and Merlot in the blend. It’s from the Umbrian hilltop town of Montefalco and the winery Arnaldo-Caprai has always made one of the best. The 2010 vintage is no exception, bringing a full-bodied, tightly woven red with notes of cherries and cassis, a fine perfume and gentle tannins.

Pull the cork on this one for a roast duck or goose, or a crown roast of pork or beef.

Region: Umbria, Italy
