Here’s a chance to really be the talk of your neighborhood.
You can own a piece by Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr, George Harrison, Paul McCartney or John Lennon.
Signed artwork by these five iconic musicians will be on exhibit — and for purchase — in a free exhibit April 8-10 at the Ann Jackson Gallery, 932 Canton St., in Roswell.
So what if you have to skip a few lunches to take one home with you.
The 40 pieces carry a price range between $1,000 and $20,000, said Neal Glaser, the collection's curator. This is the first time that art from all four Beatles and Dylan have been in the same exhibit, said Scott Segelbaum, of Rock Art Show, a traveling rock 'n' roll exhibit, and a partner in this project. The art consists mostly of prints with some original work by Dylan.
“It’s always great to be in the same room as Bob Dylan,” said Starr, who was on vacation and declined to answer questions, opting instead to issue that statement.
“Everybody knows them for their hit songs, being on ‘Ed Sullivan,’ ‘Let It Be’ and all that, but they’re actually all very talented visual artists,” said Glaser. “It’s not uncommon for someone who is a musician or actor to want to express themselves in other fields, and the Beatles are no exception. They’re multitalented.”
He said they have different styles.
For instance, McCartney is an abstract expressionist, while Dylan is more of an impressionist.
Glaser said there is also a charitable aspect to the exhibit. Proceeds from the sale of Starr's art will go to the Lotus Foundation, the nonprofit he formed with wife Barbara Bach.
Exhibition hours are from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday (April 8) and Saturday (April 9). There will also be a wine and cheese reception from 6-8 p.m. both evenings.
On Sunday (April 10), hours are from noon-5 p.m.
Glaser will be available throughout the exhibit providing special insights into the background and stories behind the artwork.
