Visit the “Hoos” at the Dunwoody Nature Center

The Dunwoody Nature Center will hold it's first "Art in the Park" event.

The first display will be “Hoos in the Forest,” featuring the whimsical woodland creatures created by South Carolina artist Salley McInerney.

McInerney used materials found in nature to create about 20 “creatures” will be on display throughout the trails and in the meadow of the park.

The exhibit runs from Oct. 15 through Nov. 15.

At the end of the exhibit, the pieces “will become one with nature,” said Executive Director Alan Mothner. Any man-made objects used in the art will be recycled or disposed of properly.

The opening event will be held at 10 a.m. on Oct. 15. with a talk by McInerney, followed by a creature tour and creature and creature cabin-building workshop. There will also be poetry, lunch and beverages for the reception.

Visitors will be encouraged to share their pictures on social media using the hashtag #hoosintheforest. Visitors will also be able to vote on their favorite creature, either in person or through social media, and the students of Austin Elementary will spend the month in the forest with the creatures and use them for
