The 1906 American foursquare home has low-pitched roofs with broad, overhanging eaves and strong horizontal lines, and a foundation and columns made of Stone Mountain granite. The home is on the Grant Park Candlelight Tour of Homes on Dec. 8-9.

With cozy furnishings and views of Grant Park, the porch is Brittney Gove's favorite part of the house to read, listen to music or hang out with her kids.

The home originally was a duplex with two kitchens. The Goves decided to keep the second kitchen, which is in the back of the house, as a separate space for visitors or a catering kitchen for gatherings, such as a neighborhood events and a wedding reception they recently hosted. The front porch provides a spacious area for friends, family and neighbors to gather on weekend mornings and venture back and forth from the Grant Park Farmers Market. The floors have a fresh coat of Benjamin Moore Wrought Iron paint.

The mudroom, in the rear of the house, was one of the main renovations by the Goves. The back of the house has two entrances because the house was originally used as a duplex.

The daunting task of decorating high walls was eased by Brittney Gove's willingness to using wallpaper. The architectural black-and-white design in the powder room makes a statement, while a pop of bright blue from the mirror adds a fun focal point.

In a guest bedroom, which has one of the home's seven fireplaces, Matt Gove's grandmother's rocking chair finds a natural fit with more modern furnishings in a neutral palette.

For Brittney Gove, taking on 11 1/2-foot ceilings was a challenge in decorating. Michele Gratch with Montgomery Gratch Interiors helped her create a comfortable, elegant home for the family. Above the Edison phonograph are pictures that were recovered from the attic by the previous owners. The family's dining room table from their first house serves a new purpose in the wallpapered foyer, which has one of seven fireplaces in the home. The room doubles as a musical space for Brittney Gove and her daughter to play the piano and for Matt Gove to play the guitar.

The formal living room is tailored with furnishings from Marty Mason Collected Home and Savvy Snoot and custom pillows with Highland Court fabrics from Duralee.

After searching for the right chairs to go with the dining room table, the Goves found a match at Scott Antique Market. Interior designer Michele Gratch showed Brittney Gove the pink peacock wallpaper from Clarke & Clarke, and it was an immediate yes, Gove said. Drapery from Thibaut softens the edges of the mural-like walls.

The Goves chose two Benjamin Moore paint shades to bring contrast to their bright kitchen space, with Revere Pewter on the perimeter cabinets and a slightly darker Briarwood on the island.

The kitchen was the biggest renovation the Goves had to carry out, but with the help of Renewal Design-Build (now Alair Homes Decatur), they have a space that incorporates a classic feel through the hardwood floors and brass fixtures. A fixture from RH offers a modern sleekness with the glow of candelabra lighting.

The home's eclectic interiors include a variety of textures and patterned fabrics from Thibaut with the foundation of a neutral palette. The walls are painted Sherwin-Williams' Warm Stone.

The fuchsia flowers in the hand-painted, original fireplace tile in the formal living room inspired the interior palette, says homeowner Brittney Gove.

The dining room table from Savvy Snoot was the first piece of furniture the Goves bought for their new home. The detail on the legs of the table make it one of a favorite piece in the home.

The family enjoys most of its meals at the custom-made table and banquette in the breakfast nook. The chairs are from Ballard Designs and recovered with a matching fabric. An oversized mirror from Anthropologie in the master bedroom fits between the molding and gives depth to the space. Much of the flooring in the home is original heart pine.

Draperies maximize the ceiling height in one of the home's six bedrooms, a light and airy spot with a mix of chevron, ikat and other patterns.
