Buckhead's Holeman and Finch Public House has been named home of the best burger in all of Georgia, according to a new and self-professedly meticulous ranking from Thrillist.

"This was not just a list compiled from other lists which were compiled from other lists until you’ve reached the end of the Internet," Kevin Alexander and Liz Childers write in their intro to the ranking, which names the best bite in every state of the union. "If we didn’t eat it personally, one of our other National Food/Drink editors or City editors or contributing writers did."

Their love for Holeman and Finch is simple. "H&F was the trendsetter, with its gold standard of a simple burger: double cheeseburger with American, red onions, pickles, ketchup, mustard, and a house-made bun."

The only drawback has been dinner time itself: the burger wasn't available until 10 p.m. (As our Meridith Ford Goldman wrote back in 2009, "The bullhorn goes off at 10 p.m. for burger time, and by 10:06 these patties are gone, baby, gone ...")

But no longer: "Thankfully, the burger finally graduated to the real menu at the end of last year," Alexander and Childers wrote.

Their picks for best burgers across the Southeast include:

  • Alabama: Chez Fonfon (Birmingham, Ala.)
  • Florida: M.E.A.T. Eatery and Tap Room (Islamorada, Fla.)
  • Louisiana: The Company Burger (New Orleans)
  • Mississippi: Neon Pig Cafe (Tupelo, Miss.)
  • North Carolina: Johnson's Drive In (Siler City, N.C.)
  • South Carolina: HUSK (Charleston, S.C.)
  • Tennessee: Dyer's Burgers (Memphis, Tenn.)
  • Virginia: Burger Bar (Bristol, Va.)
