The beer: Harpoon Take 5 Session IPA.

The story: Boston-based Harpoon Brewery has sold oceans of its flagship India pale ale since the brewery's founding in 1986. Almost 30 years later, Harpoon has released a new year-round version of that IPA, called Take 5, with a scaled-down alcohol content and less hoppy bitterness. Notice I said scaled down, not watered down. Take 5 pops with piney, citrusy aromas and has a sturdy malt base, creating a full flavor experience that will send you reaching for a second bottle.

The specs: 4.3 percent alcohol by volume, 43 IBUs.
