Lil Baby may be an award-winning performer, but he hasn’t forgotten his roots and made sure to give back in his hometown this holiday season.

On Wednesday the rapper, whose real name is Dominique Armani Jones, hosted a pop-up coat giveaway at the West End MARTA station. Warm Winter Wishes was held in partnership with the Atlanta City Council and MARTA, 11 Alive reported.

Families were required to pre-register online. Then, the event used a drive-thru or walk-up system to distribute free coats to families, according to the event website.

“We need to do it at a MARTA station so people can ride in and get the support, versus having to drive or always find a ride. A lot of people are walking up on trains. And they’re getting coats right before it gets cold,” the City Council member Andre Dickens told 11 Alive.

The council presented Lil Baby, who is a native of Oakland City, with a proclamation for his dedication to the community and acts of service.

“MARTA is just so grateful to be able to partner with the city and Lil Baby to make sure that the people who live in this community are staying warm during this cold season,” MARTA CEO Jeffrey Parker said.

Lil Baby plans to host coat giveaways for nine other cities, founder and CEO of food waste reduction start-up Goodr Jasmine Crowe tweeted on Dec. 19.

“One of the best things Lil Baby said to me was he wants to go to the communities most in need in every city. He’s been on the Zoom calls and he is very committed to his giving. That’s amazing to see; can’t wait to see all that he does to impact lives!” she said.

CBS 42 reported the rapper will giveaway 1,000 coats to Birmingham, Alabama residents in need.
