Interior design is an industry of experimentation, taste making and — ultimately — style. All the same, there are not many designers that have dared to play with their food in a professional setting. Artist Gab Bois, however, is willing to be so bold.

A look through Bois’ Instagram shows that the Montreal-based artist doesn’t hold back with her conceptual designs. Now she’s getting the internet’s attention through her portfolio of food-inspired furniture designs.

“I was actually a year-and-a-half into a bachelor’s degree to become an elementary school teacher when I started to post my photography on this account,” Bois told Elle. “It was never the plan to make a career out of it, but thanks to many factors, my photography gained some great attraction on Instagram, to the point where I decided to pause my studies and try out a career in the arts. So far, it’s been a great ride, and I’m thankful every day that I get the space and time to follow this creative path.”

From a brioche bun-inspired sofa to a popcorn snack chair made manifest, the artist has been hard at work dazzling the internet.

Bois attributes the comfort food turned furniture design portfolio to her father, who taught her that playing with food can make moments special.

“He’d create faces and pretty designs with whatever dish I was eating and tell me stories to go along with them,” she told Dwell. “To me, that made the whole eating experience very special, and almost magical.”

Out of her entire collection of comfort food-inspired designs, it is the brioche bun turned Mario Bellini’s Camaleonda sofa that takes the cake — or loaf, better yet.

“It was one of these pieces that I saw everywhere online: from Jacquemus’ office to influencers’ living rooms,” she told Dwell. “I always like to poke a little fun at trendy objects, and while I personally really like the silhouette of that piece, it also reminded me of a pack of round buns every time I’d see it.”
