Actor Brian Austin Green, best known as David Silver from the ’90s hit show “90210,” shared recently that he suffers from ulcerative colitis.

Ulcerative colitis is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease. Those who suffer from ulcerative colitis experience bouts of abdominal pain, fever, rectal bleeding, weight loss and more. Ulcers line the large intestines and experts say symptoms vary depending on the type of ulcerative colitis.

The illness left Green bedridden for six weeks. In a heartfelt message to his social media following, Green took to Instagram to share why he was absent and to thank his girlfriend Sharna Burgess, a dancer on ABC’s hit show “Dancing with the Stars,” for her support.

“Sharna was amazing. Six months pregnancy, taking care of my three young children,” said Green on his Instagram.

The cause of ulcerative colitis is not fully understood. Experts say that diet and stress could be a determining factor, but the condition might also involve an immune system malfunction. According to WebMD, most people with ulcerative colitis don’t have a family history of it.

Ulcerative colitis doesn’t discriminate between much between age and race, although individuals of Ashkenazi Jewish decent are at slightly higher risk. The condition usually begins before 30 years of age.

If you’re experiencing any symptoms of UC, seek council from your doctor immediately.
