This week is packed with recurring events and activities kids and grandparents can enjoy together — this year, next year, and on and on until it becomes a tradition.
Sleek cars, sweet wildflowers, and silly-wise tall tales provide options for many different ages and personalities.
Relive your childhood with your grands. Or if you didn’t have that sort of experience in your own growing-up years or when you were raising a family, take this chance to start some new traditions together.
Dream and drive at the Atlanta International Auto Show
Noon-8 p.m. Thursday, March 23; 12-9 p.m. Friday, March 24, 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday, March 25, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday, March 26. Adult admission is $15, kids 6 or older $7, and 5 and under free, Georgia World Congress Center “C” Building, 235 Northside Drive NW, Atlanta. (770) 916-1741.
This showcase of import and domestic cars, pickup trucks, and SUVs could tickle the fancy of a teen who’s after a license, or gram or pops in the market for a new ride.
Does a day test-driving cool cars from Chevy, Chrysler, Dodge, FIAT, Jeep, Volkswagon, and others sound appealing? That’s a possibility for drivers 18 and older on a walk-up, first-come first-serve basis. VW vehicles require drivers to be 25 or older.
And if your little ones are into cars, admission for those under six is free, so bring ‘em on.
If any day works for you, try Thursday, March 23 for a senior (ages 55-plus) discount of $5 off admission and half-off parking. Order e-tickets here and be sure to bring a valid ID with you.
Funny Folktales and Silly Stories with Chetter Galloway
11:30 a.m., Saturday, March 25, $7, Aurora Theatre in the Bartow & Leslie Morgan Cabaret, 128 East Pike Street, Lawrenceville.
Little kids, tweens, and teens with dramatic aspirations will all enjoy storytelling in the folk tradition. Raconteur Chetter Galloway honed his skills at East Tennessee State University where he graduated with a Master of Arts degree in Storytelling. His humorous and wise tales embrace African and African-American stories.
Take a wildflower walk at Fernbank Forest
10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Friday, March 24, $24.95 for seniors, $25.95 for adults, and $23.95 for children. Fernbank Museum, 767 Clifton Road, Atlanta.
The Fernbank Museum has over 30 years of history in the Atlanta area and its IMAX screen and dinosaurs are a worthy tradition for the science-minded family.
Expand on the tradition by welcoming spring with this wildflower walk, a movie in the Giant Screen Theater, and stick around for an outdoor adventure in Fernbank Forest, a decades-long local conservation effort that’s still going strong.
