Before heading to the Atlanta Cycling Festival this weekend, head to Piedmont Park for the 4th annual Atlanta Moon Ride. The cycling event will take place this weekend, filling the streets with glow-in-the-dark lights and costumed cylclists.

Joel Darby, event director, said they anticipate about 5,000 participants in this year's Atlanta Moon Ride, including radio personalities from the Bert Show and a few city officials.

Atlanta Moon Ride will take place on June 10, kicking off with a pre-party in Piedmont Park from 6 p.m., which will last until the six-mile ride begins at 11 p.m.

Eight food trucks, including The Fry Guy and The Atlanta Burger Truck will be on hand selling tasty food for attendees as DJ Moneyshot entertains the crowd. Electric Avenue will perform their David Bowie and Prince tribute sets at 8 p.m. and 9 p.m., respectively.

The bike ride itself will take participants through Old Fourth Ward, Virginia Highland and other popular Atlanta neighborhoods at night, shutting down more than two miles of Piedmont Avenue for the event.

In addition to dressing up, participants are encouraged to decorate their bicycles. Free glow sticks will be given out during the pre-party. Additional items such as spoke lights, hats and more will be available for purchase.

100 percent of the proceeds from the six-mile bike ride and pre-party will benefit Bert’s Big Adventure. Radio personality Bert Weiss and other on-air members of his Q100 show will be in attendance to welcome participants and engage in the festivities.

“The entire [Bert Show] crew comes out," Darby said.

Over the past four years, the event has raised more than $100,000 for Bert's Big Adventure, according to Darby. The charity provides all-expenses-paid trips to children with chronic and terminal illnesses and their families.
