3 fun things

Yacht Rock Schooner’s Disco Halloween

If door-to-door candy isn’t your idea of fun, come enjoy another sweet Halloween experience — the smooth sounds of Yacht Rock Schooner. The eight-member band features dual keyboards and a saxophone and cranks out tunes from the ’70s and ’80s, including hits from Kenny Loggins, Hall & Oates, Steely Dan and the Doobie Brothers. The Strand promises to keep the smooth vibes going by stocking a full bar, but seats are general admission, so think about grabbing a spot before grabbing a drink.

9 p.m. Oct. 31. $18. Strand Theatre, 17 N. Park Square, Marietta. 770-293-0080, earlsmithstrand.org.

Howl on the Green

The Gwinnett County city is offering several events for children and adults this Halloween. From 6 to 8 p.m., kids are invited to trick or treat along Main Street, join in games, jump on inflatables and boogie to live entertainment. At 8 p.m., a costume competition means prizes for kids up to age 12, as well as special treats for dressed-up dogs who enter the Hall-O-Weenie contest. At 9 p.m., the night will take on a scarier adult theme as zombies, fire dancers and break-dancing werewolves take over the Town Green. The Halloween party also will be the last Food Truck Friday for the year.

6-11 p.m. Oct. 31. Free. Duluth Town Green, 3167 Main St., Duluth. 770-476-3434, duluthga.net.

Dia de los Muertos

Once you emerge from your candy coma, consider taking in the Dia de los Muertos festival at Six Flags. Steeped in Hispanic traditions, the event features cultural foods, music and dancing marking the Day of the Dead. Attendees can paint their faces in Calavera makeup, meet Telemundo star Gabriel Coronel, and enjoy several musical acts. Guests pay the normal cost of admission and will have full access to the park, as well as the Day of the Dead events on the Dare Devil Stage.

Noon-10 p.m. Nov. 2. General admission to the park is $62; children shorter than 48 inches are $42; discounts offered on online purchases. Six Flags Over Georgia, 275 Riverside Parkway, Austell. 770-739-3400, sixflags.com/overgeorgia.
