KENNESAW
Fourth Annual Hummingbird Banding
Banding is the process of tagging birds to study their health, migration patterns and longevity, all without harming the birds. Because hummingbirds are so small, the process is incredibly precise, and expert Julia Elliot is one of the best. Attendees are invited to watch “the hummingbird whisperer” show how it’s done. The event also features talks about birds of prey, what plants to grow to attract hummingbirds to your garden, and how to identify various bird species. A plant sale, garden tours and arts and crafts activities for kids are part of the morning.
8-11 a.m. Aug. 23. $5-$7; free for children 5 and younger. Smith-Gilbert Gardens, 2382 Pine Mountain Road, Kennesaw. 770-919-0248, smithgilbertgardens.com.
