MIDTOWN

Lepre*Con 2014 at Park Tavern

Overindulgence and St. Patrick’s Day tend to go together like leprechauns and a pot of gold. Plenty of unashamed shamrock ’n’ roll drops early at Park Tavern. Organizers expect about 5,000 revelers shaking their shillelaghs. There’ll be a troupe of DJs spinning sounds, over-the-top contests and holiday suds flowing with enough force to rival the River Shannon. The party planners also will erect a Spring Break stage. Don’t forget to don your best St. Patrick’s-themed costume.

3 p.m. March 8. $18; price subject to change. Park Tavern, 500 10th St. N.E., Atlanta. 404-249-0001, www.asocialmess.com.

LAWRENCEVILLE

Freeman’s Mill Park

As the weather threatens to warm up, locals begin eyeing area parks. Freeman’s Mill Park, a sprawling 12-acre spot in Lawrenceville, boasts typical recreational offerings — families break bread in the picnic pavilion while health nuts burn calories on the half-mile trail — plus an uber unique attraction: the old gristmill, something your average parkgoer doesn’t see every day. A remnant of Gwinnett County’s agricultural history, the mill first began churning in the late 1800s. Brothers John Griffin and Levi J. Loveless built the mill for local farmers. The farmers used it to transform their wheat and corn into flour and meal. In the late 1990s, it was said to be one of only 15 mills still operational in the Peach State. These days, the mill remains a picturesque attraction for visitors.
