SANDY SPRINGS
Blue & Gray Saturday
On Aug. 30, the Heritage Sandy Springs museum will hold its last Blue and Gray Saturday. The event is a chance to watch history come to life as re-enactors demonstrate what life was like 150 years ago when the Civil War hit Atlanta. During Saturday’s program, featuring the theme “Federal Soldiers Take the Field,” visitors can try on uniforms, learn about the Confederates who guarded the Chattahoochee crossings, and talk to African-American Union soldiers. Also on display in the museum are letters, artifacts and photos from the period.
11 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 30. Free. Heritage Sandy Springs, 6110 Bluestone Road, Sandy Springs. 404-851-9111, heritagesandysprings.org.
MARIETTA
Art in the Park
Marietta will show off its artistic side over the Labor Day weekend. Beginning early Saturday, Marietta Square will be filled with paintings, pottery, photography, jewelry, sculptures and woodwork from artists who bring their wares from across the country. Some of the community’s youngest talents will have the chance to showcase their skills in the Chalk Spot, a street chalk art display that encourages children from kindergarten through high school to create a design in a 3-foot-square space. Participants will receive chalk and a goody bag, and their work will remain on display throughout the weekend (weather permitting!). Along with artwork, the event features historical walking tours of the Cobb County seat.
10 a.m.-5 p.m. Aug. 30-Sept. 1. Free. Marietta Square, 50 N. Park Square, Marietta. 404-966-8497, artparkmarietta.com.
