Marietta Gone With the Wind Museum: Scarlett on the Square

This year marks the 75th anniversary of “Gone With the Wind,” which premiered in Atlanta in December 1939. But you don’t have to wait until the end of the year to honor it. This museum near Marietta Square celebrates the film six days a week, and they’ve been doing it since 2003. A bulk of the collection comes from “Wind” enthusiast Dr. Christopher Sullivan. The museum dedicates a special educational display to the film’s African-American performers. You’ll find the original bengaline honeymoon gown worn by actress Vivian Leigh as O’Hara, and an actual script used by Ona Munson, better known as Belle Watling in the flick. Copies of the book owned by author Margaret Mitchell, movie posters, press books, actor contracts, additional costume pieces and more pack the facility. And the gift shop gives guests the opportunity to grab a memento for themselves. Keep an eye on the museum website for an announcement regarding its 75th anniversary celebration coming in June.
