DULUTH

Tap-A-Ce-Tic

You may have seen Gregory Hines and Riverdance, but this tap performance is unlike traditional dance genres. The Lawrenceville-based group showcases six high-energy performers who don’t limit themselves to a flat stage, putting their flying, tapping feet onto all sorts of surfaces. The high-tech spectacle also incorporates a light show and live music that puts a modern twist on an old standard.

7:30 p.m. Aug. 8; 2 and 7:30 p.m. Aug. 9; 2 p.m. Aug. 10. $35-$60. Gwinnett Performing Arts Center, 6400 Sugarloaf Parkway, Duluth. 770-813-7600, tapaceticlive.com.

CARTERSVILLE

Night at the Museum VI

OK, it’s more like “evening at the museum,” and definitely not as action-packed as the movie. But this four-hour adventure lets visitors get up close and personal with actors portraying some of the well-known figures from science’s past as well as characters from fiction. Ask the Wright Brothers what the wind felt like in Kitty Hawk, or tell Katniss Everdeen that Gale is much cooler than Peeta (read up on “The Hunger Games” first). Each guest will receive an autograph book to collect signatures, and children younger than 12 are encouraged to dress up as their favorite scientist or science fiction character. The evening also features the Tellus Madd Scientists performing all sorts of strange and interesting experiments. Come for dinner; the cafe is open until 9 p.m.

6-10 p.m. Aug. 9. Members $10, nonmembers $20. Tellus Science Museum, 100 Tellus Drive, Cartersville. 770-606-5700, tellusmuseum.org.

Also on display will be memorabilia from the Georgia, Seaboard and Atlantic Coast Line railroads. More than 300 vendors will help buyers find those nifty accents to bring their train dioramas to life: dining car china, lanterns, timetables, locks and keys. Check the website for admission coupons.
