Community Smith opening

Community Smith, "a protein-centric neighborhood" concept from chef Micah Willix, is set to open this week at the Renaissance Atlanta Midtown hotel. Located at the corner of Abercrombie and West Peachtree streets, the restaurant is billed a "carnivore's paradise meets vegetarian's delight." Look for dishes ranging from duck pate and porchetta to roasted cauliflower and chopped lettuces. The adjoining rooftop space, the Garden at Community Smith, is slated to open on March 20. 866 W. Kevin Gillespie’s Revival

Last week, chef Kevin Gillespie of Gunshow and "Top Chef" fame announced that his newest project, Revival, will open in early June and be located in the Decatur space recently occupied by Harbour House Pub. The "meat-and-three" concept will be a "fresh take on the traditional, family-style Sunday dinner, with a focus on farm-raised and artisan-prepared ingredients." Gillespie's new cookbook, "Pure Pork Awesomeness," is due out March 31. chefkevingillespie.com.

Edgewood and O4W pizza

Eater Atlanta reports on the Jan. 21 reopening of Edgewood Pizza in the Old Fourth Ward (478 Edgewood Ave. S.E., Atlanta, 404-522-5512, facebook.com/EdgewoodPizza) nearly a year and a half after it closed due to a fire in August 2013. Meanwhile, Old 4th Ward Pizza has opened in the Irwin Street Market (660 Irwin St., Atlanta, 678-705-7945, irwinstreetmarket.com), serving New Jersey-style offerings, such as the square, thin-crust Grandma's Pie.

Hugh Acheson at PCM?

Last week, rumors surfaced that Atlanta/Athens chef/restaurateur and "Top Chef" judge Hugh Acheson had plans to open a restaurant at Ponce City Market — the mixed-use development slated to open in spring 2015, where chefs such as Anne Quatrano of Bacchanalia and Linton Hopkins of Restaurant Eugene had already signed on. But when The Atlanta Journal-Constitution contacted Acheson via email, he had a very direct response to the hearsay. "It is NOT a restaurant and the deal ain't final," he wrote. poncecitymarket.com.
