Chef Eli Kirshtein opens the Luminary
The Luminary, the first restaurant by Atlanta native and "Top Chef: Las Vegas" alum Eli Kirshtein, is set to open Aug. 4. And it looks like it will be the first restaurant to open at Krog Street Market. Described by Kirshtein as "an American brasserie with regional influences and named after Atlanta's historic first newspaper," the Luminary will feature a classically inspired menu, raw bar, craft beer and cocktail program, and 400-square-foot patio space. Bread & Butterfly in Inman Quarter
Atlanta Business Chronicle reports that Decatur's Cakes & Ale restaurant chef/owner Billy Allin and his wife, Kristin, plan a new restaurant called Bread & Butterfly for Inman Quarter, the mixed-use project at 299 N. Highland Ave. in Inman Park. Also slated for "IQ," Barcelona VinoTeca wine shop from the group Barcelona Wine Bar and Bartaco, AMER, a cocktail spot from Bocado founder Brian Lewis, and another outpost of Cacao Atlanta Chocolate Co. inmanquarter.com.
Seafood & Craft Beer Festival
The inaugural Atlanta Seafood & Craft Beer Festival will debut at Piedmont Park on Aug. 9. The new event is designed to highlight Atlanta restaurants, food trucks and caterers that specialize in serving seafood, along with some of the city's most popular craft breweries. Look for a beer garden with tastes from Eventide, Jailhouse, Jekyll, Monday Night, Orpheus, Red Brick, Red Hare, Sweetwater, Three Taverns, and Wild Heaven. CL’s James Camp photo tribute
Members of Atlanta's food, dining and photography communities were saddened to learn of the recent passing of Creative Loafing contributing photographer James Camp. Camp's sumptuous photography was a centerpiece of CL's food and drink coverage for many years. Food editor Stephanie Dazey put together a fitting tribute with his images and words from former and current staffers, including Bill Addison, Besha Rodell, Wyatt Williams, and Jennifer Zyman. clatl.com.
