New Meehan’s open in Buckhead
The fifth and newest location of Meehan's Public House opened in Buckhead last week in the former Aspen Bartini space on East Paces Ferry Road. The Irish-style pub from 101 Concepts restaurant group and executive chef Brian O'Rourke has locations in Sandy Springs, Vinings, Atlantic Station and downtown Atlanta. Old Hickory closed in Dunwoody
One of the longest-running restaurants in metro Atlanta, the Dunwoody location of the Old Hickory House on Chamblee Dunwoody Road, has closed. The beloved Southern barbecue spot known for its hearty breakfasts and Brunswick stew was once one of 14 Atlanta locations. But now, after a long string of closings, only the Old Hickory House on Northlake Parkway in Tucker remains. 2202 Northlake Parkway, Tucker, 770-939-8621.
‘Hamburger America’ screening
Hosted by Farm Burger, with the Atlanta Film Festival, the 10th anniversary screening of George Motz's award-winning documentary, "Hamburger America," lands at the Plaza Theatre on Sept. 9. Motz, billed as "America's foremost hamburger expert," will be on hand for a Q&A and sign copies of his book, "Hamburger America." Atlanta Meatball Festival
Atlanta restaurants will be dishing up their best meatballs in a "battle of the balls" at the "San Gennaro-type" Atlanta Meatball Festival competition on Sept. 14 at the Belle Isle Square parking lot next to Cibo e Beve. Produced by TasteATL and hosted by Cibo e Beve chef Linda Harrell, the event will benefit Open Hand Atlanta.
